Bohunt School

Construction Value: Approximately £ 3.2 M

Pope Consulting have been fortunate to be associated with the school for a number of years to provide consultancy services for a number of projects including: provision of a new classroom block, boiler replacement works, new entrance and an assessment of the existing gas supply.

Our largest commission to-date has been for the construction of a new dedicated 3 storey Sixth form building comprising of Science Classrooms, STEM Workshop, Music and Recording Studio, Seminar Rooms, Cafe, WC’s, Offices Lecture Theatre/Drama Hall, Classrooms and IT Room. The building is accessed at first floor level via a footbridge.

We are appointed to provide full M&E design services which is being executed using a federated 3D Revit Model managed by the architect.

Mixed mode demand controlled ventilation has been extensively used throughout the teaching space, controlled automatically by wall mounted CO2 sensors and/or occupant controls to provide flexibility to the user. Extensive day-lighting control has been employed to minimise energy consumption.

University of Chichester Sports Dome

The University required an all-weather hockey facility and this fabric building covers three hockey pitches or four tennis courts, with spectator facilities. The building is naturally lit through its translucent fabric in the daytime but has full sports lighting at night. A gas fired air plant provides condensation protection.

Pope Consulting were employed initially by the University to assess Employer's Requirements and report on lighting and possible light pollution. We were then novated to design/build contractor Amiri to monitor the installer's proposals and to design the new gas supply.

Priors Field School, Godalming,

Construction Value: Approximately £ 1.2 M

Priors Field school Is an independent boarding and day school for girls aged between 11 and 18. To provide additional teaching space it was proposed to demolish the existing single storey field wing constructed in in 1964 whilst retaining the two storey field wing extension built in 1988 and build a new three storey field wing on the existing footprint.

The new building is linked to the retained field wing extension and houses the new entrance space, multi-use classrooms, modern foreign language rooms, textile rooms, an ITC suite, art rooms and toilets. The works were planned and executed whilst the school was occupied.

Following a feasibility study executed by Pope Consulting, we were appointed to provide M&E performance consultancy services. We provided initial thermal modelling to indicate the route to compliance with the requirements of Building Regulations. A detailed enabling works package was developed by Pope’s following a number of survey’s to ensure that disruption during the scholastics calendar was minimised. Following completion our team was subsequently engaged to undertake works to the new music and science block.

London Borough of Southwark Ivydale Primary School

Construction Value: Approximately £ 8 M

The new Inverton building for Ivydale School doubles the school’s existing capacity to accommodate KS2 children in a 4FE primary school. It is one of two schools we are delivering for London Borough of Southwark’s Primary School expansion programme.

The new building is located on a site nearby the existing Victorian school building. The project has been delivered on a modest budget, with the focus on creating inspiring, flexible spaces which perform well. Spaces feature exposed Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) and glulam structure which required close coordination for services penetrations to ensure these were minimised and did not detract from the required aesthetic.

Pope Consulting were appointed by the Contractor to develop the mechanical and electrical services from the brief to delivery a fully operational learning environment, this included photovoltaic panels at roof level and an extensive natural ventiilation scheme using stack and cross flow ventilation. The learning spaces were predominantly ceiling-less and required close coordination with lighting and acoustic baffles. The project achieved BREEAM Very Good and won the London Regional RIBA Award 2018.
