Worthing Crematorium New Chapel
The new chapel at Worthing Crematorium is a £1m construction commissioned by Worthing Borough Council to replace an existing chapel. The chapel was built without interruption to services in the rest of the building.
Pope Consulting Ltd designed all of the mechanical and electrical services in the building. The building was dynamically modelled using IES Virtual Environment software to prove the natural ventilation strategy.
The building is heated by a ground source heat pump. It draws heat from three 90m deep boreholes to provide low carbon heating to the underfloor systems. The pump can be reversed in summer to provide low carbon cooling.
Ventilation is provided by automatically actuated windows.
