Company Philosophy

Pope Consulting Ltd was formed in 1999 against a background of rapid change in the construction industry. Increasing fuel costs, concern over climate change and the need for buildings to have sustainable credentials have altered the way we approach the design process and a much greater awareness of how a building will perform in practice is now required.

Pope Consulting Ltd is in the vanguard of this change. Not only are we designing the very installations that are the energy consumers of the finished building but we also have a deep understanding of the influence of construction forms on the building’s energy footprint. In a construction environment where legislation and standards are continually and rapidly changing, Pope Consulting Ltd will ensure that designs and advice are compliant with the latest standards. The changes enshrined in the 2006 Building Regulations require a different approach to compliance, often involving computer modelling of the proposed construction. Increasingly, local authorities are applying the Merton Rule, requiring 10% or more renewable energy resources as a planning condition.

We have both the experience and technology to achieve these aims. We have a number of projects, completed and in construction, that employ low carbon technologies, including ground source heat pumps, biomass boilers, solar collectors and combined heat and power. We have also invested in staff training, fully networked office systems and software. Our IES Virtual Environment programme can accurately model building form and weight and run dynamic simulations using real weather data. This informs the design at an appropriately early stage on thermal, natural lighting and ventilation efficiency, and will assess compliance with Part L Approved Documents.

Health and Safety is also a particularly important issue to us. Pope Consulting Ltd can act as your CDM Co-ordinator, ensuring that you meet your obligations under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007.
